Halftail, his mate Ashfur, and a few other rats had stolen extra rations and slunk off into the forest to eat them. Now they were all lost but things were looking up, they had stumbled upon some woodlanders. One Otter, A female squirrel, and a mouse-babe (they failed to see the bat) ----------------------------------------
Scamp was tired, he had been up since dawn with Aster, one gone up and down a hill 3 times and had met several strange creatures. All this in one day while also very exciting was exhausting and scamp’s grip on Tyko’s paw loosened and dropped, his pace slowed and he began lagging and he began laggin behind. -------------------------------------
Halftail, not one to miss a good hostage dashed forward and snatched up the little mouse as it shrieked in panic.

Fire was about to answer to Tyko when she saw the little mouse scooped up and his alarmed shriek rang through the forest. Turning in a spin she drew her bow and arrow and it was aimed at the rat's head. "Move to hurt him and this arrow goes straight through your head." She growled, Her ears flicking as she heard the approach of other rats.

Skylander was failing in her search for somewhere to stay for her companions, there wasn't anything, and most of it were unused rabbit holes that neither her nor Goldenheart would be able to fit into.
Sighing she turned to go back toward the ruins but was stopped by the alarmed shriek of a young mouse. She frowned and dived downward into the trees above the sound. Landing on a branch she looked down on the scene and hissed softly. Vermin.
Grumbling under her breath she glowered down at the rats and left out an angry caw. Dropping from her branch she scooped up Ashfur and shook the rat before dropping her and fluttering back up into the branches.

The terrified cry of the mouse-babe reached Roland’s big, sensitive ears and for a moment, like an aeroplane stalling its engine, he dropped towards the ground, then circled upwards and took flight again in the opposite direction just a short distance from Terra Firma. He detected Skylander overhead and released a happy chirp at her arrival. The squirrel and owl-maidens seemed to have the ringleaders of this dirty rabble under control, so he decided to occupy himself with their Vermin companions.
“Abandon hope you foul beasts-beasts!” he declared in the most impressive voice he could muster. “For now you face the fellowship under Scholomang the Great, Court Magician of Redwall-Redwall! Strike with sorcery-sorcery!”
He unhooked some of the purses of magickal powder from his waist and let them drop like bombs over the villains. A great cloud of green, purple and blue smoke rose up from where they hit, spilling out onto the forest path and filling their eyes with sparkles. Once he made touchdown, he drew his cane-sword, ready for a fight. In the years he had spent travelling, Roland had discovered a liking for the adrenaline rush of adventure and confrontation.

Hearing Scamp's cry of terror, Tyko whirled around; spotting the vermin, his face twisted in fury. The jovial Tyko Streambar vanished, as he whipped out his sling, taking several steps forward. Meeting the rat's eyes, the otter spoke aloud. "Put the mousebabe down, then move away, and don't ye dare come back. Any sudden moves, and I'll put this here stone through your skull." He could sense movement around him; Fire was also aiming at the rat, and something big dropped out of the sky- but it attacked another one of the vermin, so he assumed it was not an immediate foe and paid little attention to it. His gaze remained fixed on Scamp, giving the rat a few seconds to surrender; and if he didn't, well... Tyko was an expert with a sling, and he always hit his target. Scamp was a bit too close for comfort, but the otter was sure he would hit the rat and not the mouse. The greater danger was if the rat fell across the babe, squashing him. Sudden light and color flashed on the road, and Tyko blinked, temporarily blinded by the sudden flare of smoke. Shaking his head impatiently, he peered through the haze, trying to keep his aim fixed on the rat.

When Ashfur was taken out Halftail gulped, and clutched the infant tighter. Surely these woodlanders wouldn’t attack… but he found out he was wrong as Roland dropped his smoke bombs and Halftail felt a deep pain in his shoulder. Coughing and bleeding the rat threw the mousebabe to the ground
“Lets get out of here !” The lead rat shouted and stumbled off to the woods bleeding from his shoulder. The two rats immediately behind him tried to run in the blinding smoke only to impale themselves on each others weapons, and one last rat fainted.
Scamp landed and rolled across the ground where he was thrown screaming and crying at the top of his lungs. He was tired, scared, and now had a mouth full off blood.

Not far from the site of the short battle, Deathwind had been watching. The black fox saw the rats thoroughly routed, and given the number of woodlanders that were there he wasn't willing to risk being spotted.
Silently, the fox stalked off after the rat. Deathwind's job was to scout the forest, and he already had plenty of maps of his own to appease Amarabette. One last look around was all it would take to be sure that the local vermin hordes were still spread where he remembered them. This group of woodlanders though...That was troubling. Where had they come from?
The rat was the most likely one to have an answer. Deathwind kept on his trail, planning to wait for him to stop once out of sight of the woodlander group.

As the rats fled, Roland waved his sword-cane in their general direction, shouting with vigour, “Run you globby bottles of cheap, stinking sweat and oil-oil! Besiege us again and you’ll get it up the sprocket, if you’ve got sprockets, you eunuch jelly moulds-moulds!” Satisfied with himself, he sheathed his blade and went to Scamp, picking up the mouse between his leathery limbs.
“Now, now, no need for tears and bawling, is there-there?” he said and used the tip of his bandanna, which currently hung loose about his neck, to wipe the blood from around the child’s lips and chin. As he did this, he began carrying him back to where Tyko stood, since the otter appeared to be his main caretaker as of now.

When the rat threw Scamp to the ground, Tyko rushed forward, impatiently blinking the remnants of grainy smoke out of his eyes. The bat was closer though and beat him to the mousebabe. Realizing that his paws were shaking with vestigial fury, the otter made an effort to relax and to allow his anger to dissipate; it would be just typical if Scamp was frightened by Tyko's rage, now that the real danger was over. Holding out his arms as Roland came towards him with the poor terrified mouse, Tyko enfolded Scamp's paws in his own comfortingly, brushing off a mess of dirt from the tiny limb. "Are you alright, matey? That nasty toad-bottomed rat didn't hurt ye, did he?" he asked urgently, voice and eyes radiating concern. He hadn't known Scamp long, but he felt responsible for him, and had grown quite fond of the young rascal.

Adrenaline was a good thing when you were scared and during the fight it had given Scamp enough energy to bite the big rat. By the time Roland picked him up however the little mouse was already starting to crash, clinging to the limb holding him holding him as the bandana cleared away the blood. Scamp’s crying died down as his energy faded and he blinked sleepily when he addressed by Tyko.
“Ship shape” the small mouse babbled in response to the otter’s question. Then he paused and scrunched his face “Boad- tottom mewmuck prat…” Scamp tried to repeat what the two elders had called the rats but it came out as a jumble “taste eww”.
with sleep pressing harder on the poor baby mouse, Scamp curled up while cradled in Roland’s wing . Still keeping his usual grip on Tyko’s paw and clinging to it as if it were a stuffed toy.
----------------------------------
Halftail ran for a good while, still choking on the thick smoke. He had never encounter creatures like that before, up north the weaklings new their place and the reaction the conquering vermin had received from the coastal villages they looted hadn’t implied anything otherwise. Just grabbing the mouse babe should have had them willing to do anything for it’s safety but instead they had attacked him!
He was so lost in thought that Halftail didn’t even notice when he ran right smack into a giant tree.

Deathwind winced as the rat ran smack-dab into the tree and crumpled to the ground. Slowly, the black fox stalked closer to the white rat, looking him over curiously as he toyed with one of his knives.
Deathwind shrugged, and knelt down next to Halftail. He wasn't being paid to kill the rat (though it would probably be a favor to the poor, stupid beast). He slowly began sifting through Halftail's belongings, seeking items of value.
The rat's knife in particular caught his attention. Deathwind pulled it from the scabbard on Halftail's hip and looked it over. It was well-forged, but definitely not of a local design. Judging from that and the beast's fur color, he wasn't a local.
"Now what do I do with you?" Deathwind wondered as he toyed with the knife while looking over the rat.

Fire squinted down the line of her bow at the rat and was about to fire when the bat decided to cover them all in smoke bombs. Lowering her bow and arrow she stowed them back in her quiver and quickly gathered some of the fabric bunched up on her shoulder and covered her mouth.
Keeping her eyes barely open she stumbled backward and watched as the rats ran from their sight. Rolling her eyes she caught the movement of something out the corner of her eye and quickly turned to look. Seeing nothing she shook her head and shivered. "Tyko, Roland. I think we'd best be going. We have already been attacked once and I'd rather not risk it a second time." She told them, Keeping a wary eye on the owl that had just fluttered down to sit near her.
Skylander nodded, "I haven't been able to find anywhere to stay for the moment Roland, So we should just venture back to Goldenheart and Silver Sweetfur, Yes?" The owl nodded to the other animals and then fixed her golden eyes on the otter, Who was currently carrying the young mouse babe.

The owl nodded to the other animals and then fixed her golden eyes on the otter, Who was currently carrying the young mouse babe. Roland noted the situation he and Tyko were caught in. Scamp had made himself comfortable in the curve of the bat’s leathery wing and kept his hold on the otter’s paw. This meant that the magician would definitely not be flying home, rather he would have to continue walking the dirt path in close proximity to Tyko so as not to disturb the nipper’s sleep. He had been through a terrible ordeal, bless his little humming heart, and it would be cruel to wake him up again in he probably now viewed as a dark and rather foreboding place. Offering his temporary partner-in-bondage an approving grin, he turned his attention to Skylander with a sudden flick of his furry head. “It’s like you read my mind-mind,” he said in an attempt to be as quiet as possible. With that, the party’s journey to Redwall Abbey began once more and hopefully with swifter, less troublesome results. As they moved away from it, another creature watched them from the underbrush, contemplating them. With a flick of her tongue, Ziminiar Breathtaker, the adder, decided she had seen enough and would retreat. These animals were too dangerous to deal with as when they were together.

Tyko relaxed a bit, reassured that his young charge was unharmed. He even managed a good-hearted chuckle at Scamp's childlike disgust with the vermin. Poor babe, he was exhausted. However, there was no chance that the otter would be able to dislodge his paw without waking the mousebabe; and he knew that young 'uns needed their rest, especially after such a traumatizing incident. He nodded when the others came to their decision, and naturally fell in step beside the bat. Tyko wondered briefly who Goldenheart and Silver Sweetfur were, but assumed they must be companions of some sort to Roland and the mysterious but apparently friendly owl.
